About 200 workers of the Kwadaso SDA Hospital in Kumasi are being tested for coronavirus after the Medical Director of the facility died of Covid-19.
Some of them are believed to have come into contact with Dr Harry Owusu Boateng.
The 48-year-old died at home on Saturday few days after he complained of being unwell.
Director of Ghana Adventist Health Services Dr. Paul Amo Kyeremeh who confirmed his death told JoyNews the physician tested positive after his death.
"It is true that, the Medical Director or Medical Superintendent at Kwadaso SDA Hospital in Kumasi has passed away on the 13th June 2020 in the morning hours.
When the news was reported to us , a team was dispatched to take a sample to test to establish what might have let to the demise and when the results came, it was established that it was due to Covid-19 yet with underlying health or medical conditions," Dr. Amo Kyeremeh revealed.
According to him, the Ghana Adventist Health Services is collaborating with the Kwadaso Municipal and the Ashanti Regional Health Directorates to test all the medical staff including those in the late doctor's medical team.
Dr Owusu Boateng who is described by many as one of the hard-working physicians has been working with the Kwadaso SDA Hospital since 2013.
His demise did not only come as a shock to the medical fraternity, but also the general public, especially patients he has treated.
Dr Amo Kyeremeh assured the public of their safety and quality care after the hospital's premises was fumigated.
He said the No face mask, no entry, as well as handwashing protocols, are strictly being enforced at the facility.
"By the grace of God, our workers they are stable; we met them, we've spoken to them and then we've strengthened them.
We've also fumigated the hospital-work is ongoing. Everything is under control.
It is not true that we've closed Kwadaso SDA Hospital. It is not true."
This is the first time the hospital has recorded a Covid-19 related death according to Clinical Coordinator, Dr Randolph Baah Adu.
The senior specialist, Obstetrician Gynaecologist also revealed this is not the first time a hospital staff has tested positive for Covid-19 there.
"This is not the first time, but this is the first time that we have experienced death from Covid-19 in our facility," he revealed.
"Actually this is not the first time that we are doing the screening services for our staff. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we put measures in place that every two-weeks, we test our staff to make sure that we are safe so that we can also take care of those who seek our services," he continued.
