Work on the new Abinkyi market where traders at the Race Course Market will be relocated to is due for completion two weeks ahead of time.
The 37 pavilion facility will accommodate 7,500 traders, each of whom will occupy either a store or a shed.
The relocation is to make way for the Sun City project being spearheaded by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second.
Officials of T&K Enterprise, executors of the project say work is about 80 per cent complete.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, and City Mayor, Samuel Sarpong, paid a working visit to acquaint themselves with progress of work on Monday.
Managing Director of T&K Enterprise, Thomas Kwabena Braimah told journalists what is left is just finishing touches.
He believes the market is ready for occupation whilst the rest of the work is completed.
“We are only left with pavement blocks that would be used for a parking lot area and the toilet facility is also in place.
"And definitely when you are working on a project of this nature, you cannot complete everything at once," he said.
According to him, workers of the company would continue towork at night to ensure the project is completed on time.
Traders at the Race Course market are reluctant to move to Abinkyi Market and other satellite markets designated for them despite last month’s expiry of a one year deadline issued to them by the city authority.
Chairperson of the Market Queens Association, Nana Akua Bakomah, however pleads with the Regional Coordinating Council to help get the traders out of the Race Course land.
The regional Minister warned that those who drag their feet do so at their own risk.
According to him, government will ensure the traders relocate from the Race Course market so that the project on the land can commence.
