One of Multimedia’s babies, Adom FM’s Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey popularly known as Abeiku Santana has been selected as part of a government delegation to understudy the operation and management of efficient public transport systems elsewhere.
The study tour is being organized under the auspices of the Urban Transport Project and will take the delegation to London, Bogota and Curitiba.
Increasing traffic jams in the country’s towns and cities is a concern to the government which says precious man hours are wasted by the nation’s productive force in traffic.
A country striving to attain middle income status in 2020 cannot afford to waste too much time daily in snail space traffic.
The government is therefore undertaking the project to modernize the transport sector and reduce the amount of time spent commuting to work and back.
The government wants to introduce an efficient shuttle system. But since the Omni Bus Service and Metro Mass Transit, which were governments’ attempt at implementing transport systems failed, the current government wants to study what is being done elsewhere in order to avoid the previous mistakes that led to the unsuccessful attempts.
The team will be away for two weeks beginning from August 11 to 25.
It comprises of representatives from all relevant agencies and departments as well as the media.
The tour delegation is expected to advise the government as it formulates a transport policy.
