At times I feel shattered by the African’s way of political practice.
At other times I feel democracy, a very fine governance system, is being mutilated in our part of the world.
The very downside to this mistreatment of an ideology is extreme ethnic consciousness laced in a political garb surreptitiously deployed to hold sway over legitimate considerations for a rational political choice.
Many a time I hear marriages are even dissolved because one partner, from a different ethnic group gets so hooked to the gaping divisions created by acrimonious political campaigns.
This mess, in Ghana, replicates on larger scales in other parts of Africa.
But how come we cannot subject this governance system to a scientific analysis taking cognizance of our Africaness and its cultural idiosyncrasies?
Dear Sir, do not forget, before any policy is rolled out, it is tested through a system of filtration to ensure perfection and subsequent suitability to the end-user.
The Constitutional provisions of Freedom of speech, Association and all the other freedoms have woefully failed to provide inherent checks or exceptions.
And this accounts for utterances that border at the brink of social disintegration.
A Rotational Presidency
After a careful and painstaking intra-brain lone debates I have come to these conclusions:
1. The presidency of Ghana should be rotational among major ethnic groups in Ghana.
2. The term of office should be Seven years of a One term of tenure.
3. Intra-ethnic elections shall be held within the regions of the particular ethnic group.
4. The candidate who wins automatically becomes the President of Ghana and must be duely sworn in according to law and procedure.
5. All other State and Electoral Institutions shall function as the Law provides.
Advantages of a Rotational Presidency
1. Total elimination of election –related tensions in the country.
2. The avoidance of the winner takes all syndrome.
3. No more ethnic acrimonies and voting on tribe or ethnic lines across Ghana.
4. There would be a national focus based on a comprehensive all hands-on-deck national agenda.
5. Corrupt activities motivated by short-political tenure of office and political myopia shall be reduced if not eliminated.
6. Political stability.
7. Increased Foreign Direct Investment.
8. Detribalization of the body-politic.
9. Avoidance in election year price hikes.
10. Ensuring a good standard of living for the average Ghanaian.
My brethren, this is the only way to go.
Humbly submitted for your consideration please.
