Two persons remanded for stealing

The Nkawie Circuit Court has remanded Yaw Tandoh and Kojo Owusu, both unemployed of Mpasatia in the Atwima-Mponua District into prison custody for alleged conspiracy to steal and stealing. Tandoh and Owusu pleaded guilty and not guilty respectively and would re-appear on November 6. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector H.A. Agyare told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that the complainants who are twins, Kwame Attah and Ataa Dansowaah, lost their mother about a month ago and left behind a number of made-in-Holland wax prints. The cloths were to be shared among the deceased's children including the complainants. According to the prosecution, Tandoh heard about the intentions of the family head of sharing the wax prints and informed Owusu about it. Chief Inspector Agyare said after locating where the cloths had been kept, the two then entered the room and packed 27 pieces of the wax prints valued at GH¢ 2,040 (¢20.4 million). The prosecution said the second accused (Owusu) took the wax prints to Kumasi to find a prospective buyer. On arrival in Kumasi, he met a man who expressed interest in buying the cloths but offered to pay an amount of GH¢1000 (¢10 million) with the promise of paying the rest later. The family had also noticed the theft and suspected the first accused (Tandoh) since he was staying in the house and caused his arrest, which subsequently led to the arrest of the second accused.
