Police grab four armed robbers

Four armed robbers who allegedly attacked a house at Asamang-Tamfoe, near Anyinam in the Eastern region, and made away with an unspecified amount of money, a Benz car and other valuables have been arrested by the police. The four suspects are Kwaku Ebenezer, alias Osaman, 18; Frank Kofi Nkansah, alias Kofi Onyinka, 30; Bright Asenso, 35, and Kwame Aboam, 28. They were said to have gone to the house, belonging to one Nana Kwasi Awuah, at 3.00 a.m. last Thursday and robbed him and his grand-daughter of their belongings at gunpoint. Briefing the press in Koforidua at the weekend, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Felix Asare-Darko, said about 3.00 a.m. on October 25, Nana Awuah reported to the police that four armed robbers had attacked him and his grand-daughter, Linda, with pistols and taken away his Benz car, an unspecified sum of money, mobile phones and accessories and ornaments. The regional police commander said following a tip-off by people who saw Nkansah running into his room at 4.30 a.m. on that fateful day, the police arrested him at his house at Asamang-Tamfoe. According to DCOP Asare-Darko, on the same day, Ebenezer boarded a commercial vehicle from Asamang-Tamfoe to Anyinam but could not pay the fare and so he was forced to get down by the mate. On seeing a police officer, Ebenezer took to his heels and entered a nearby bush, but he was pursued and arrested. He pointed out that when Ebenezer was searched, two mobile phone chargers, a screw driver, a DV trade plate number GV 2781, a bunch of keys, bracelets and rings which were retrieved from him were identified by Nana Awuah as his. The regional police commander indicated that Ebenezer later led the police to effect the arrest of Asenso and Aboam at their various hideouts around Asamang-Tamfoe, adding that the police were still investigating the incident. He warned all those involved in armed robbery and other anti-social acts to desist from those acts or face the wrath of the police. In a related development, the police in Koforidua, on October 25, this year retrieved a single-barrelled gun with six live ammunition and other implements when a suspected armed robber attempted to launch an attack on a passer-by at, Pintuala near the Koforidua Office of the Daily Graphic at midnight.
