A 40 year-old farmer from Breman Beedum in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District who inflicted cutlass wounds on his brother-in-law was on Tuesday fined GH¢480 by a Breman Asikuma district magistrate's court.
Kwesi Owu, who pleaded guilty, would go to prison for one month, if he fails to pay the fine.
Police Chief Inspector Gershon Awuyeh, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Miss Cynthia Hammond, that Kwesi Owu and his wife lived with others, including the brother-in-law in a family house at Breman Beedum.
He said the accused and the wife had always been quarrelling, compelling other members in the house to ask them to leave the place, but they refused.
Chief Inspector Awuyeh said on October 6 2007, Owu and the wife again had a bitter quarrel and as a peace gesture, Dwiah asked his sister to spend the night with his family.
He said this decision did not go down well with Owu and that he became angry and chased the wife in the in-law's room and subjected her to severe beatings.
The prosecution said in a further attempt to intercede on behalf of his sister, Owu picked a cutlass from the room and inflicted multiple wounds on him.
Chief Inspector Awuyeh said Owu attempted to run away but he was apprehended with the help of the neighbours and sent to the police station.
Dwiah was taken to the hospital where he was treated and discharged.
