At about 11:55 am on Tuesday, the World’s largest Airbus, the Emirates A380 touched the ground at the Kotoka International Airport’s Terminal three.
The Emirates A380 flight was operated by Ghanaian-born Capt. Solomon Quainoo, and UAE national First Officer, Faisal Alhammadi.
The one-off A380 flight EK787 from Dubai, stayed on the ground for more than six hours before departing at 17:50 hours to Dubai as flight EK788.
According to Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda the historic landing is significant to the country’s drive of becoming an aviation hub.
He said, “This means that we’ve come of age. Of age in the sense that we can take any type of aircraft from any part of the world and we have all the infrastructure to take care of any aircraft that will land here. Now we are where we can really become the hub in West Africa and possibly the African sub-region.”
The Executive Vice President of Emirates, Orhan Abbas said the flight was made possible with the improved infrastructure at terminal three.
He said, “we commend the vision and foresight of the government in investing in a world-class airport facility which will further open up Ghana to greater trade and tourism.”
The Managing Directoro of Ghana Airports Company limited, John Attafuah said his outfit will apply the highest safety and maintenance standards.

The Emirates Airbus A380 can take over 500 passengers and comprises of multiple classes.
It is set in a three-class configuration, with 426 seats in Economy Class on the main deck, 76 flat-bed seats in Business Class and 14 First Class Private Suites on the upper deck.
Once the A380 reaches cruising altitude, passengers in the First Class can enjoy Private Suites, and Shower Spas, an Onboard Lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers that offers a wide range of drinks and canapés, as well as space to socialize or simply relax at 40,000 feet.
Passengers travelling on the main deck in Economy Class can enjoy stretching out in seats with a pitch of up to 33 inches.
A well-fitted entertainment set to make that journey a memorable one is not only a preserve for the big payers but also for the economy class as well.
Emirates commenced operations to Ghana in January 2004 and flies to Accra daily from Dubai.
Close to 1.6 million passengers have flown the Dubai – Accra route since its started.
