The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court has remanded two wood carvers for felling trees illegally at the Bemu Block Two Forest Reserve in the Akyem Oda Forest District.
Kofi Mensah and Kweku Akwah pleaded guilty to a charge of feeling trees illegally and would be sentenced on October 26.
Mr Wilson Owusu Asare, Akyem Oda District Forest Manager, told the GNA that the two accused persons were arrested on October 9, 2007, two days after felling seven Danta trees in the reserve.
Mr Asare appealed to communities living within forest fringes to be vigilant and volunteer information to forestry officials that would lead to the arrest of illegal chainsaw operators.
He appealed to chainsaw operators to find alternative means of livelihood and that stringent measures had been put in place to ensure that those who plunder the forests with impunity would not be able to have their way.
