The NPP delegates system is inherently and incurably flawed. In its current form, it is incapable of choosing the best leader. Much of the current debate is geared toward applying a band aid to a festering sore. I see 2 main problems:
Allowing each constituency to have 10 delegates defy any logic, experience, or intuition. Delegates should reflect the strength of membership in the constituencies. Why should constituencies with few NPP members have the same delegation size as those with many NPP members?
Delegates are free agents. This is completely anti-democratic and breeds side payments to the delegates. Delegates must be allocated based on the candidate’s performance in each constituency.
Until we fix these 2 problems, we are just dancing around the problem. My detailed comments in the media over the years lay down the formula for getting it right.
Incidentally, the NPP approach here is similar to the approach used to address the PAC problems, findings, etc. It is time we invest in solid systems and stopped the wishful thinking approach to solving problems.
