Dr Francis N.A. Sowah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the La Dadekotopon for the 2008 general elections, has donated 40 street light bulbs and accessories estimated at GH¢9,000 (¢90 million) to improve security and lighten up the area at night.
Communities that would benefit from the gesture to give the constituency a face-lift include Adobetor, La Kponaa, La Koo, Kaadjrano and New Mantiase Electoral areas.
Speaking during the presentation at La in Accra, the aspiring Member of Parliament said there was the need to "brighten up" the area in the night in view of the upcoming "CAN 2008 African Nations Football competition since most of the visitors, officials and players would be housed in the constituency.
Dr Sowah who is also a legal practitioner, noted that most of the foreign visitors who would be living in the hospitality institutions in the Labadi area would like to "have a feel" of the history and culture among other things of the area they would be putting up.
He called on elders and people of the area to cooperate with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to draw up a comprehensive programme to "Sell the tourism potentials" of the area as part of efforts to revive economic activity and to keep the constituency clean.
The La Dadekotopon Aspiring parliamentarian identified some of the tourist attractions in the area that should be developed as the "La Kpa Shrine", the Kpeshie Lagoon and colonial structures.
