Youth cautioned against political violence

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Mr Solomon Abbam Quaye, has cautioned the youth in the district to shun people who would attempt to influence them with money to engage in violence during the 2008 elections. He said with the "onset of the political season some disgruntled people who do not have the development of the area at heart may attempt to buy their votes". Mr. Abbam Quaye gave the warning when addressing members of 16 different youth clubs in Winneba on Monday. The programme was organised by the Brotherhood Youth Fan Club, one of the newly formed clubs in the town. He said if they sell their votes to such people they would regret and blame themselves in future. The DCE urged them to work hard and always ensure peace and tranquility in the town. Mr Abbam Quaye appealed to the youth to approach the appropriate and relevant authorities for explanations on matters they did not understand to avoid rumour mongering and speculations. The DCE urged them to come to the Assembly with their problems and complaints for assistance when necessary, which would go a long way to help in the development of the district. The MP for the area, Mr. Samuel Owusu Adjei urged the youth to unite since that was the only way development would come to the area. Mr. Owusu Adjei, who is also the Minister of Public Sector Reforms, advised the youth to desist from engaging in chieftaincy and land disputes, but rather use their energies towards the development of the town and also improve their individual living conditions. He urged everybody in the area to embrace peace and also understand each other while mobilizing their resource to develop the area. Source: GNA
