Two Kumasi based policemen who allegedly gang-raped a teenage junior high school (JHS) pupil are to face trial for their conduct.
This follows the initiation of indictment proceedings against them by the Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Kingsford Effah and Daniel Oppong, both Lance Corporals, were said to have gang-raped the 14-year-old girl after luring her into a room.
They are currently on bail. Inspector Yusif Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Department told the Daily Graphic, "We are ready to forward the docket on the case to the Attorney-General's Department as a first step for the necessary advice."
If indicted, the policemen would be committed for trial by a jury at the High Court.
Inspector Tanko said the circuit court, where the two policemen appeared on provisional charges of rape, had granted them bail, pending the outcome of the indictment proceedings.
Lance Corporals Effah and Oppong lived in the Police Quarters at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
According to the police, the victim also lived in a house close to the barracks.
The two policemen were said to have conspired to rape the girl, who later reported the action to her parents, who in turn reported the matter to the police.
