The Deputy Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, Dr Brempong Yeboah said the National Youth Employment Programme introduced by the government has proved to be the best intervention for youth unemployment in the sub-region.
He said within four months of implementation of the programme, unemployment has gone down and this had enhanced the socio-economic development of the country.
Dr Yeboah said this at the Adaklu-Anyigbe District People's Assembly at Kpetoe.
He said the initial success story of the programme had attracted five countries from the sub-region to study the programme for possible implementation.
Dr Yeboah said all the eight modules of the programme had proved viable for the development of individuals and their communities.
He appealed to the youth to take advantage of the initiative and justify the 1 trillion cedis voted for it and appealed to district assemblies to give out office space and means of transport to facilitate the implementation of the programme.
Courage Quashigah (RTD), the Minister of Health, appealed to the people to put politics aside and resolve to move the nation forward.
He attributed the nation's socio-economic problems to divisiveness, finger pointing and lack of ingenuity and urged all to rally behind the President's long-term development plan of vision 2015.
During an open forum, issues were raised such as the National Health Insurance Scheme, the NYEP and the School Feeding Programme.
Moses Ankrah, a civil servant from Adaklu-Anfoe, said the assembly was yet to be fully united in view of the citing of the district capital and called on the government to try to get the three communities united for the smooth administration of the district.
