Ghana’s Partick Allotey retained his WBO Africa Super welterweight title against tough-talking Badru Lusambya of Uganda at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday night.

Allotey controlled the fight from start to finish, landing good shots with his jab and rattling his opponent on numerous occasions with powerful right hooks but failed to finish him off. There were no questions about Allotey’s victory, not even from Lusambya who agreed with the three judges 120-108 unanimous verdict.

The bill which was put together by Cabic promotions also saw two other Ghanaian boxers grab WBO Africa titles. Richard Harrison Lartey floored Boniface Kabore of Burkina Faso four times en route to a second-round stoppage to win the vacant WBO Africa heavyweight title.

Emmanuel Martey defeated Sunday Ajuwa via a unanimous 49-46 technical verdict after five rounds to win the WBO Africa super middleweight title and improve his unbeaten career record to 14-0, 9 Kos. The fight was stopped by the referee on the advice of the ringside doctor after an accidental headbutt both fighters with deep cuts and incessant bleeding.

The event was attended by former President John Dramani Mahama and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Elizabeth Naa Afoley Quaye.

The three Ghanaian boxers all expressed ambitions to annex the world titles in their respective weight classes. Allotey is currently ranked 15th on the WBO’s ranking but is expected to climb up and put himself in the picture for a world title shot.
