Tidal waves on Thursday left residents of Glefe along the Dansoman beach in Accra stranded as they woke up to find their homes and other properties submerged in water.
Seawater has flooded the entire area destroying houses and other personal belongings. The residents say the devastation started at night and more than half of the community has been washed away by the sea.
Glefe is in the Ablekuma South constituency where Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Theresa Amerley Tagoe is the MP.
Joy News reporters who visited the scene say the residents are gathering their belongings to safety whilst they await official response to their plight.
Residents told Joy News reporter Nanabanyin Brown Addo that about 200 houses have been destroyed. No lives have been lost.
