NCA finally bares teeth

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has finally decided to bite after a very long time in the lurch, despite incessant complaints from long suffering Ghanaians who have been held hostage by mobile phone companies operating in the country. Ever since mobile telephony took off in this country for over a decade now, services have gone from bad to worse, but the NCA, the body tasked with the responsibility to make sure service providers were up to the task of providing good quality services to customers have not been decisive. But on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at a press conference at its offices, the NCA has issued a directive to service providers, especially, MTN and Onetouch to halt the signing on of additional subscribers within the next 30 days. Mr. Bernard Forson, the Director-General of the NCA said the two mobile phone companies which account for 80% of all mobile telephony subscribers in the country cannot add to the list of their subscribers until they improve the quality of service. The NCA has therefore given the companies up to November 8th, 2007 to clean-up their acts.
