A 32-year-old driver, Kofi Sam, alias Okonkwo, has been remanded in prison custody by the Cape Coast Circuit Court for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs and jumping bail after his arrest.
He pleaded guilty to jumping bail but pleaded not guilty to the charge of possessing narcotic drugs.
He will be re-arraigned on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 for him to prove his innocence.
Assistant State Attorney Kofi Seshie Ametewee told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyako, that on Monday, September 19, 2011, the Central Regional Police had a tip-off that a group of people were trading in narcotic drugs at a hideout at Abura in Cape Coast.
He said upon the arrival of the police, the group managed to escape except Sam, who was arrested and detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The State Attorney said 15 pieces of wrapped whitish substance and 39 pieces of wrapped dried leaves, which were later confirmed to be heroin and cannabis respectively by forensic test, were found at the hideout.
Mr Ametewee said two days after his arrest, Sam escaped from police custody but was re-arrested that same day
