On that Black Tuesday, both the old and young were
left to weep
His demise drew sorrows from all corners and they
were deep
He had a very mild and meek character like
the sheep
His fond memories with us, we shall
forever keep
We shall forever remember that day; 24th July, 2012
was the date
It was only three days after his birthday and he left
at sixty eight
At all his appointments on earth, he was on time and
never late
We believe he was warmly and joyfully welcomed at the
Heaven’s gate
His term of office he could not finish but the race of life
he won
To his loved ones, it was hard to believe he was
forever gone
Because he was such an illustrious son of the land,
oh dear John!
Though he is gone, his legacy will forever remain and still
live on
Despite all the challenges he faced, he maintained his character and
stood tall
He lived a fulfilled life and kept his promise as the father
for all
His dear nation wanted him but he had to answer his
Maker’s call
On that Black Tuesday, we never knew a great son of the land
would fall
From the lips of many came numerous words
of slander
But he never retaliated and this made
people wonder
He never took sides to put his dear
nation asunder
And he proved this by not being a
cat hunter
He was never ashamed, his faith he
openly proclaimed
To some, he was too good and honest for the so called
dirty game
So they could not bear it when people insulted his
honourable name
To them, his death has rather put his enemies
to shame
Others also believe he was hounded out of
the way
So the hungry political vultures could have
their day
Because they could not stand him for doing politics in a
civil way
Oh dear John, we never thought you will leave us
this way
As a leader, his name was tossed back and forth like
a dice
But he kept on preaching peace and harmony because that was healthy
and nice
To some; whilst his death was a great loss to the nation it was also a
political sacrifice
So that Ghanaians will learn from his character and be
politically wise
