At least 12,750 Ghanaian youth are expected to benefit from an entrepreneurship package to transform their socio-economic life.
Global network of innovation, EQWIP HUBs, is spearheading the initiative, led by Canada World Youth with support from Youth Challenge International and
Country Manager, Gifty Volimkarime Kuug, says the beneficiaries of the programme which is been implemented in 6 countries including Ghana will receive training to develop positive attitude to implement business ideas.
It will be executed through market-driven work skills and entrepreneurship incubators for gender responsive programs, mentorships and seed grants.
“We’ll continue with our core training that includes employment and work-readiness module. Our entrepreneurship training has an incubator and youth support fund that will benefit youth who have creative business ideas, are gender friendly, environmentally responsive and will use local materials to grow the business, ”she said.
“It’s complementary to academic work. Just that it allows you to develop a positive attitude that will enable you to use your skill wherever you find yourself,” Madam Volimkarime added.
Successful candidates can benefit from a package between CND$500 and CND$2,000 Canadian dollars.
Implementation in the Ashanti Region follows successful schemes in the Greater Accra and Northern Region.
Kumasi Technical University is implementing partner though its Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development.
Acting Vice- Chancellor, Professor Asiamah Yeboah, is optimistic the collaboration will give graduates head -start to reduce unemployment.
“All that we want from the collaboration is our students to be trained well so that they can go out there and set up their own businesses,” he said.
Already 8,675 Ghanaians youth have benefited from the package and the group hopes to hit the nearly 13,000 target by 31st December 2019.
