We of the NDC New York chapter received the news with shock and sorrow of the death of the heroic and dynamic leader of our dear nation, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
We therefore express our condolence to the wife and family members of the late president, the people of Ghana and the rank and file of the NDC members.
Professor Mills was a leader who several attempts were made to corrupt and he resisted and also refused to compromised his religious and national ethos regarding gay marriage in spite of pressure from the western governments.
Although our hearts are bleeding by the sudden death of this pious servant of God and Ghana, we upon sober reflection of his indelible legacy of commitment, honesty, forgiveness and dedication to duty in a bid to implement his better “Ghana Agenda”, hope that posterity will live to remember him, as a leader who had made enviable history for us all to read and write.
And we have the conviction that, now that he belongs to eternity, the people of Ghana having witnessed and noticed his tremendous effort in laying down socio-economic infrastructure nationwide and his effort toward making Ghana the fastest growing economy, they will undoubtedly renew the mandate of his government come December 7th 2012, to enable his successor carry on with his outstanding legacy for the years to come.
As he was described by his predecessor President Kufuor, when expressing his condolence, “…How many people will get the opportunity to live such a brilliant life?...we should celebrate him as a person who lived his life successfully”, We were really blessed with a leader that we will continue to miss and remember and bite our fingers for his short leadership life.
Even though we will all miss him a great deal, but aside of his family, the next person to miss him so deeply is his Vice-President John Dramani Mahama, now President Mahama. This is due to the obvious fact that, President Mills will go on record in the history of Ghana as the best leader to have had a good working relationship with his Vice-President-seeking his advice, granting him myriad of opportunities, mentoring him as well as exposing him into the field of international diplomacy-having noticed his intellectual potential, charisma and commitment as well as dedication to duty.
We are optimistic that the kind of mentoring and training and exposure that Mr. John Dramani Mahama had had with the late president will enable him fill that vacuum this death has created which is unprecedented in the history of Ghana.
Mr. Mahama has already started gaining much popularity by virtue of this exposure Professor Mills gave him as well as carved an enviable niche for himself with the recent launch of his first book nationally and internationally, which is as well unprecedented in the history of African politics for a sitting Vice President to be a successful author.
May the soul of our dear President rest in Perfect Peace.
Signed
Alhaji Abass Adamu,
Chairman, NDC, New York Chapter.
