GREAT Trust mourns Mills

Commiseration Message To The Bereaved Family, The Ruling National Democratic Party And Entire Ghanaian People In The Tragic, Sudden Loss Of Late Head Of State, President Professor John Evans Atta Mills – Wednesday 25th July 2012 The Board and International Advisory Council, Strategic Partners, Stakeholders and Staff of the GREAT Trust, the Council for Afrika International and the Afrika Liberation Council jointly express sincere commiserations and condolences with the bereaved family, the ruling National Democratic Party and the entire people of Ghana on the tragic, sudden death of the late HE President Professor John Evans Atta Mills on Tuesday 24th July 2012. During this period of profound grief and loss, we encourage the Ghanaian leadership, the political parties and all the Ghanaian peoples to exercise unity in adversity with a common purpose of imagining how Professor Mills would have liked to be remembered. There is no doubt that President Mills was a peaceful and highly personable person, both in private and public life and would entreat all Ghanaians, regardless of background to observe a peaceful national period of mourning, with an overarching single purpose of giving a fitting national period of mourning, burial and memorial to the late President. Having had the privilege of meeting Professor Mills on a number of occasions in public and private life during his tenure as serving President on our duty tours in Africa, we note and recall Professor Mills as extremely intelligent, affable, humble and personable. There is no doubt that late President Mills was a committed and highly achieving public servant, a high-flying academic, practising professional and distinguished politician who deserved to be objectively remembered for his sterling, selfless public service, gracefulness and pleasant demeanour.. Concurrently, we would like to congratulate the Ghanaian authorities for the smooth management of process to transition smoothly with the duty of governance under extremely difficult circumstances in accordance with constitutional provisions of Ghana. Worthy of mention for recognition is the decisive commiserative way the Leadership of Ghana’s Opposition Parties and respective Presidential Candidates have come and even halted campaigning in honour of the late Ghanaian President Professor Mills. Amongst others, this is reflective of a certain degree of political sophistication ascribable to Ghanaian political leadership in times of national tragedies, such as bereavement. It is our hope that this type of matured approach is allowed to characterize the mainstay of future Ghanaian politics towards a zero-tolerance of violence campaigning, voting and a tolerant reception culture of fairly-run electoral outcomes in future national elections. We wish the newly installed President HE John Dramani Mahama divine wisdom, strength and the values of patriotic Africanism, to effectively lead Ghana in accordance with the spirit and letter of the oaths of the highest office in Ghana, in service to the utmost wellbeing of the Ghanaian People and protection of the sovereignty of Ghana. Again we have had the privilege of meeting the HE President Mahama during our duty tours to the African Continent. We find in him a most courteous, humble, personable leader and an effective communicator and wish him well and the strength to carry on in very challenging circumstances. Like Africa, Ghana has a pedigree. It has to be noted that the Republic of Ghana’ likes its predecessor Ancient Ghana have been mantle-bearers and pioneers of great deeds. Politically, the UGCC and the CPP spearheaded bold pioneering acts that culminated in the establishment of Ghana’s sovereignty, which catalyzed an avalanche of rapid decolonisation in West Africa and beyond, from 1957 to the early 1960s. In the 21st Century, Ghana has emerged as the world’s second largest exporter of cocoa and an emerging world leading producer of oil, gas, in addition to centuries’ history of being major producers of gold, diamond, bauxite, coffee etc. Unfortunately, it is not always the case that the Majority Indigenous Ghanaians, to whom Ghana’s wealth primarily belongs to, have benefitted from the reservoir of comparatively rich natural resource endowment. It is fair to comment that the Late Professor Mills tried to change this injustice. We sincerely hope and pray that Ghana’s Self-Ruling Elite adopt pioneering paradigms to avoid the ‘curse of rich natural resource endowments’ as pertains elsewhere in the world, and develop Novel and Inclusive Ethical Progressive Commonwealth Approach, which centres around Majority Indigenous Ghanaians as the key birth-right investors, beneficiaries and stakeholders, to restore Ghana’s pedigree. May the Spirit and Soul of late Professor John Evans Atta Mills Rest in Perfect Peace! We pray for Almighty God’s Consolation, Renewed Strengthening and Protection for the bereaved Mills Family, the Republic of Ghana, its Leadership and the Ghanaian People. May Almighty God Abundantly Bless Ghana!! May Almighty God Bless Africa!!! Dr Koku Adomdza, FRSA, MIOD, DPMSA President – GREAT Trust, Council for Afrika International, Afrika Liberation Society On behalf of the Trustee Board, International Advisory Council and all Strategic Partners The GREAT Trust, The Council for Afrika International, and The Afrika Liberation Society
