The family of a 21-year-old woman who died with her triplets following alleged negligence on the part of nurses at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua is appealing for legal aid.
Her husband, Samuel Mawuli, who is bent on taking legal action against the hospital, he has no money to hire a lawyer.
The deceased, Prisca Sodzi, according to her family was first admitted to the Suhum Government Hospital last Thursday while in labour.
Due to her deteriorating condition, she was referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua where the health professional are reported to have administered oxygen and intravenous infusion on her.
Mr Mawuli told Joy News’ Kofi Siaw that Prisca’s sister-in-law who was with Prisca accused the hospital staff of negligence for failing to attend to the deceased when her condition worsened.
“My sister went to see my wife on her hospital bed complaining about some sharp pain so she went out to get the nurses.
“The nurses asked my sister, ‘are you a doctor?’ while they chatted and watched television in the ward,” he narrated.
He said his sister went back to meet the deceased lying in a pool of blood as she bled profusely from her arm where the nurses had administered a drip.
According to Mawuli, Prisca was then rushed to the theatre after they called the nurses attention.
The distraught husband told the reporter his wife was pronounced dead after she was delivered of triplets.
“I told my sister to go to see to the children after we were told Prisca had passed on, but she told me the kids are no more,” he said tearfully.
The family of the deceased has objected to an autopsy at the Eastern Regional Hospital has promised to fund because they suspect it will be compromised.
“I left the hospital and called my wife’s relative and told them what had happened who told me not to allow the hospital to perform the autopsy nor touch the body.
