The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District, presided over by Mr. Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah on Wednesday sentenced a farmer to eight years imprisonment, for breaking three teeth of a teacher with a stone.
The teacher had gone to separate a scuffle between the farmer, Kwabena Appiah and his (the teacher's) sister, when Appiah threw a big stone to hit the mouth of the teacher, breaking the teeth instantly.
Appiah, 28, pleaded guilty to causing harm.
The Prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Emmanuel Brako, is a native of Akim Adwaafo, but a teacher based at Ntronang, while Appiah is a farmer also at Adwaafo.
The prosecutor said on September 4, this year at about 1830 hours, the complainant was in his house when he heard that the witness in the case, also his sister, was crying for help.
He said when Mr. Brako rushed to the scene he saw the convict beating the witness mercilessly and when he tried to save his sister, Appiah picked a big stone and threw it directly to hit the mouth of Mr. Brako thereby, breaking three upper teeth on the spot.
The Prosecutor said when Appiah saw that the complainant was bleeding profusely, he absconded and the matter was reported to the police, who later arrested Appiah from his hide out.
