12 stolen cars to be returned to owners

Twelve luxurious vehicles among a number suspected to have been stolen from Europe and other parts of the world and brought into the country, are to be returned to their rightful owners this week. Ten of the cars are to be returned to Canada and two to Germany. The vehicles were among 20 seized in different operations by the International Police Organisation (Interpol) Ghana, in collabora¬tion with National Security and Customs Excise and Preventive Service, among other agencies. Proper documentation and shipping arrangements covering the remaining eight are being processed before they are sent to their owners. Superintendent Frank Sam Kwofie, Head of Interpol Ghana, disclosed this to the Times in an interview last Friday. The Ghanaian Times in its April 21 edition, reported that 20 luxurious cars, suspected to have been stolen from Europe and other parts of the world, were intercepted by security agencies last year and early this year. Models of the vehicles include Infinity, Audi A6, Moreno, VW Towic, Toyota Trial and BMW X5. Superintendent Kwofie said the exercise followed intelligence reports that countries like Germany, Holland, Belgium, Canada and Spain continuously complained about car thefts from their territories. The modus operandi of the thieves was that they conceal the cars in big containers meant to carry lorry tyres, vehicle parts, used clothes, footwear and other items. Source: Ghanaian Times
