A farmer from Wakii, a village near Tongo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, who wanted to display his juju powers at a funeral a week ago, is in critical condition at the Bolgatanga Central Hospital.
The victim, Boaram Bayelmalim-me, who was striking his abdomen with a sharp knife to the admiration of spectators at the funeral of a local chief, ended up bringing his intestines out when the juju failed him and the knife went deep into his stomach.
Boaram who was performing the daring act in the full glare of the townsmen, put his juju to test.
Wearing talismans of various sizes and colours, he started displaying by stabbing himself many times with a sharp knife. But as the crowd applauded and hailed him, disaster struck; the knife pierced his stomach and his intestines gushed out.
He fell unconscious and those around rushed him to the Tongo Health Centre, but he was immediately referred to the Bolgatanga Central Hospital, due to the seriousness of his condition.
The victim is currently on admission at the hospital responding to treatment.
Traditionally, when a chief dies and his funeral is being performed, the village stages a war dance, during which those with magical powers showcase or display to the public.
