For some men, intellectual women have it all--great conversation skills, profound insights and sharp wit. Offering more than just a pretty face, an intellectual woman can challenge, engage and understand you, and unlike her less intelligent counterparts, she's likely to intrigue you for years to come.
However, approaching an intellectual woman can be daunting, according to AskMen relationship correspondent Andrew Moore. By showing interest, honesty and good conversation skills, though, you can catch and hold the interest of that fascinating lady.
Step 1
Don't pretend to be smarter than you are. If you exaggerate your intelligence when first meeting a smart woman, you can expect one of two scenarios. Either she'll see through you right away, or she'll see through you later. Andrew Moore adds that such a ruse could also cause you to seem pompous or blatantly insecure. It's better to present yourself honestly and focus on your areas of knowledge, rather than attempting to keep up with hers.
Step 2
Don't be threatened. According to "Tao of Dating" author Ali Binazir in The Huffington Post, intellectual women may appear to be so fiercely independent that they have no need for men at all. Often, smart women don't realize that they are sending out this "unapproachable" signal, and they may be frustrated and confused because men don't ask them out more often. If you like a woman, don't let her tough exterior chase you away; get to know her better before deciding.
Step 3
Show curiosity. Even if you aren't as knowledgeable as she is, you can still impress her in conversation by being intellectually curious, reports Andrew Moore. Ask her well thought-out questions that probe beyond superficial niceties. Show interest in the subjects she knows about, the places she's been, or the languages she speaks. Take her on dates that will expose her to new things, and share your areas of interest and skill with her.
Step 4
Remember that intellectual women have emotional needs, too. As off-the-charts as your lady's I.Q. may be, she still has basic human needs to be loved, appreciated and respected, says Moore. If you can engage her in conversation with a reasonable amount of empathy, interest and contemplation, you probably don't need to be the reincarnation of Albert Einstein to win her heart.
