The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has not been consulted on the proposed bill for state funding of political parties.
Speaking to Joy News on Friday, Mr. David Adenze Kanga, Deputy Chairman of the EC said, the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), did not consult the Commission as it prepared the draft bill with input from some of the political parties.
The Deputy Chairman said the EC initiated the campaign to get state funding for the parties and was therefore expecting the IEA to consult them so they can share with them what information they have been able to gather during a nationwide tour they did over the issue.
The EC which is the Constitutionally mandated body to deal with political parties in the country says it is regrettable that it was not consulted.
The IEA would submit the proposed bill to parliament for consideration.
