A 100 million cedis rehabilitated three-classroom block for Old Tafo Presbyterian Primary School in the East Akyem District has been inaugurated.
It was financed by Mr J. B. Dankwa-Adu, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North from his share of the Common Fund.
Speaking at a handing-over ceremony to the assembly, Mr Dankwa-Adu expressed appreciation for the project that would offer children in the area an opportunity to have electricity to study during the night and urged parents to encourage their children to study hard.
Mr Owusu Ameraku, Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Supervision and Monitoring at East Akim District Directorate of Education, urged teachers of the school to ensure that the building was maintained to prolong its life-span.
Mr Jonas Amoako-Addy, Circuit Supervisor for the area, advised the people and the youth to refrain from pilfering in schools.
He said Government had supplied all private schools in the country with textbooks therefore it would not be profitable to steal textbooks for sale.
Mr Ofosu Darko, Headteacher of the school, said the school building constructed in 1880, was in a deplorable state and an appeal was made to the MP for assistance.
He appealed to the assembly to construct a new six classroom block for the school to stop the shift system for the teachers to have more contact hours with the pupils.
Nana Yaw Kyereh, a retired educationist and Mankrado of Akim Tafo, appealed to teachers in the area to sacrifice a little to improve the standard of education.
