MTN, in collaboration with the National Blood Bank, has organised its annual blood donation exercise at the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho.

The 4th edition of the blood donation exercise held on February 14, 2018, was dubbed ‘Save a Life Blood Donation’ and was aimed at getting enough blood to stock the National Blood Bank for emergencies in hospitals across the country.

This year’s exercise saw hundreds of volunteers troop to the Volta Regional Hospital to support the blood bank which constantly needs pints of blood to save lives.

One of the volunteers, Jerry, described the event was the best Valentine’s Day gift and have encouraged others to do donate blood.

A welcome speech read on behalf of  MTN Foundation’s Senior Manager for Sustainability and Social, Mr Robert Kudzoe, by the Volta Regional Manager,  Raymond Kojo Tibson, said the Foundation was committed to supporting communities through life-changing projects such as the Save-a-Life project and many others.

According to him, the blood donation exercise was instituted in 2011 as an annual event for MTN staff only.

However, this year, the Foundation decided to partner its agencies, clients and the general public.

“Our interest in this event is driven by the fact that we need a healthy society to be able to enjoy our services. As we work hard to connect societies and delight them with our services we must also show interest in their lives.

“That is why MTN Ghana Foundation invests in Education, Health and Economic Empowerment. For many years, we have consistently invested in these areas and as we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we will continue to expand the frontiers of our work,” Mr Robert Kudzoe stated.

According to him, the Foundation has been able to achieve remarkable progress through the support of Ghanaians.

The MTN Foundation is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management structure for the MTN Group's related initiatives across its 22 operations.

The MTN Ghana Foundation was established in 2007 as a single purpose vehicle to drive all MTN's CSR initiatives in the country.

The Foundation currently has three focus areas – Health, Education and Economic Empowerment.

The Foundation is set up as a separate legal entity with its own independent Board of Directors and Patrons who oversee the operations of the Foundation.

Its commitment is centred around the socio-economic development of the country through the roll-out of appropriate and sustainable social interventions in communities all over the country.

The main aim of the Foundation is to have a broad community impacting and supporting national and international development priorities. It facilitates partnership and sharing of resources to achieve mutual objectives.
