Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged party supporters to work hard towards victory in 2008 since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not give up power easily.
He was addressing members of the "Friends of Professor Atta Mills of NDC", a pressure group seeking to mobilise more supporters to ensure success for the NDC in next year’s general elections.
The group had called on the professor to congratulate him on his success at the recent National Delegates Congress of the party.
Professor Mills in thanking them for their show of support for his candidacy urged them to "work hard to bring more people into the fold"
Earlier in the congratulatory message, Mr. Vet Okuley, National Co-ordinator of the group said Professor Mills deserved the victory he won at what he described as a "democratically contested election".
He pledged the unflinching support of the group to win the votes of all floating voters who were "sitting on the fence".
Mr. Okuley said the Friends of Professor Atta-Mills of NDC would seek to win the support of friends in other political parties.
He said the group would be vigilant and work to unseat the NPP from power, come December 2008.
Mr Okuley said "all branches of Friends of Professor Atta-Mills in the ten regions of Ghana are being called upon to re-group, organise and start campaigning immediately for a landslide victory in 2008.
"We hereby extend a hand of co-operation to all progressive forces, that our doors are always open to work together for a collective victory in 2008 for a new and better Ghana"
Mr. Henry Golightly, an executive member of the group appealed to Professor Mills to give them the fullest support to achieve their objectives.
Mr. Kwame Antwi-Boasiako, a special assistant to Professor Mills urged the groups to work hard to help the party to retain parliamentary seats in areas where it was dominant.
He said the NDC would support all friendly groups that were prepared to campaign for the party to win victory in 2008.
