Dr. Edmund Delle, National Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has called on the leaders and members of the party not to allow petty quarrels and mistrust to divide them.
He noted that as a "big family", there were bound to be differences of opinion among members on how the party should be run but said "this should be resolved amicably in the interest of the party".
Dr. Delle made the call at a regional workshop for constituency representatives of the party from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, in Tamale.
The workshop discussed the party’s programme of action and training for polling agents who would monitor future elections.
Dr. Delle stressed the importance of discipline in the party and urged members and supporters to be guided by the CPP constitution in all that they did and stated that "Ghanaians will not entrust power to a party that is not united". He said the leadership of the CPP welcomed suggestions and criticisms from the rank and file and pledged the commitment of the party’s leadership never to fail the members and supporters.
Professor Nii Noi Dowuona, CPP General Secretary, expressed concern about the tendency of some members to send the party to court over slight misunderstandings.
He said, "Those who feel the present leadership is not doing well should bid their time and contest for the positions at the appropriate time".
Prof. Dowuona urged the members to learn to sacrifice for the growth of the party just as its founding members did, saying: "Party members can fight among themselves but they should try to reconcile their differences in the interest of the party".He stated that the party had to elect constituency and regional representatives before it goes to congress adding that, "Let us not go to congress with any bitterness".
Mr. Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional Chairman, expressed regret that the party recorded "zero votes" in some polling stations during the Tamale Central by-election even though the party had a lot of goodwill.
He wondered whether the party’s polling agents voted either against the party or refused to vote at all saying: "Let us be sincere to ourselves and not to deceive the leadership of the party".
