Founder of an Autism Training Centre in Accra, Serwaa Quaynor has challenged parents with autistic children to spend quality time in training them to avoid future regrets.
She said caring for an autistic child is very expensive; therefore parents with such children must find lasting solutions to curb it.
Serwaa Quaynor made the observation on Joy FM’s Ultimate Health Programme, Tuesday.
According to her, autism is a childhood development disorder which affects a child's brain and make him or her behave oddly from other sound minded children.
She added that the condition could be noticed within the early 12-16 months after a child’s birth - adding that the condition can be treated or managed through the use of pictures and sign languages, but has no cure.
Serwaa Quaynor warned that because the condition becomes difficult to handle at the adolescent stage of such children if they are not well trained, it sometimes leads to divorce since many men do not have the patience to live with autistic children.
She encouraged parents to join hands and support their child with the condition.
