Mohammed Adjei, a businessman was on Sunday elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodio Constituency in Accra.
Mr Adjei polled 75 votes to beat his competitors, Mr Reginald Nibi Ayibonte, former Member of Parliament for the constituency and Alhaji Watson Quartey, who polled 35 and six (6) votes respectively.
In all 116 out of the 120 official delegates voted in the primaries.
The delegate's conference, which took off smoothly at the James Town Vocational Institutes turned acrimonious after officials of the Electoral Commission announced the winner of the primaries.
Some of the delegates supporting the losing aspirants became offended for reasons not immediately known, casting aspersions on delegates whom they thought should have voted for their favourites.
But the presence of police personnel and the matured stance of some of the delegates prevented the supporters from venting their spleen on other delegates they thought let them down.
However, both the victor and the vanquished appealed to the delegates to accept the results in good faith to move the party to victory in the 2008 elections.
Mr Adjei pledged to unite members of the party in the constituency and asked his other competitors to join forces with him to ensure that the party moved to greater heights.
Both Mr Ayibonte and Alhaji Quartey pledged their support to Mr Adjei and called on the delegates to unite for the common good of the party.
