Kwadwo Bio, the 62-year-old farmer who allegedly shot and wounded a security guard while the victim was protecting the mast of a telecommunication company has been arrested.
The suspect surrendered to police officers at Bekwai in the Ashanti region after spending two days hiding in the bush.
The incident happened last Monday morning while the victim, Kwaku Tweneboa was on guard duty at Kankamfranse, a village on the Obuasi-Dunkwa road.
DSP Matthew Asante, Obuasi Municipal Police Commander, told Daily Guide the victim was clearing weeds in a backyard garden at his workplace when Kwadwo Bio fired at least one shot at him leaving the 42-year-old wounded from a BB cartridge.
According to the police commander, Tweneboa was initially taken to the Obuasi Government Hospital where he was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after he was said to be in critical condition.
DSP Asante said the suspect on the other hand took to his heels and went into hiding after committing the act.
He has since admitted the offence but stated that his target was a partridge and not the victim.
However witnesses told Daily Guide that prior to the shooting, Bio was spotted in the area carrying a single-barrel gun and walking about as if he was looking for something.
The shooting of Tweneboa, according to his family members, most likely stemmed from a disputed land case between the suspect and the victim’s uncle.
DSP Asante said the victim told the police shortly after gaining consciousness that Bio shot him and ran away leaving him to his fate.
He concluded that the suspect would be sent to court for remand as detectives present his docket to the Attorney General’s Department for instruction and charges.
