The number of teenagers who are becoming mothers in the country is on the increase.
A study by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) shows that about 30% of all births are by teenagers. Some of these are as young as 14 years old.
The study also revealed that about 30% of abortions recorded in the country are by children in their early teens.
Speaking to Joy News’ Adisa Lansa, Mr. Robert Mensah, the officer in-charge of Sexual Reproductive Health at the UNFPA, said another 30% of all maternal mortality involves young girls in their early teens.
When Joy News visited the antenatal clinic of the Teshie Clinic, nurses at the clinic said about 90% of all cases reported there are teenagers.
