A 24-year-old man, Yaw Nyarko, who is serving a two-year jail term at the Kumasi Central Prisons was on Monday remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for tearing open his colleague's scrotum during a fight within the prison premises.
His plea was not taken and will re-appear before the court on September 28.
Akwasi Mensah, 26, the victim, also serving a two-year jail-term, is now on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Police Chief Inspector Owusu Manu, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that on August 26, this year, Mensah was repairing a damaged coal pot in the prison's yard when Nyarko came over and told him to leave the spot.
The prosecution said Mensah refused to leave the place leading to a heated argument, which later resulted into a fight and in the process, Nyarko held the victim's scrotum and ripped it apart spilling his two testicles.
Chief Inspector Manu said the prison officers were then informed and rushed Mensah to KATH where he was admitted for treatment.
Nyarko was arrested and in his caution statement admitted the offence.
