He urged the people to continue with their assistance to the hospital because they had already contributed towards the building of a ward, rehabilitated and refurbished the maternity ward and donated equipment to the hospital. Dr Appiah-Denkyira said it was government's policy to provide every electoral area a nurse who would ensure 100 per cent immunization of children in the area, visit and advise pregnant women to use health facilities for ante- natal care and delivery. He said an area with population of 15,000 would be provided with a clinic and a midwife, population of 40,000 with a Medical Assistant and population of 100,000 with a hospital. Dr Appiah-Denkyira called on communities in the area to negotiate with officials of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to organize community transport systems to convey pregnant women to health facilities for delivery at reduced fares. Dr Patrick Amo-Mensah, Kwaebibirem District Director of Health Service, appealed to the assembly to provide accommodation for staff of the hospital, especially medical practitioners who had expressed the desire to work at the hospital but could not be accommodated.
