A 32-year-old woman, Iyadun Adeyemi, was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly dumping her new born baby in a pit toilet.
The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Akinyemi Oriyomi, told the court that the suspect dumped her baby in a pit toilet at Alafin St., Aisegba-Ekiti, immediately after she delivered the baby boy.
Oriyomi said that she was caught by her neighbour who secretly followed her to the scene where she committed the crime.
He added that the offence was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the suspect in prison custody pending the conclusion of police investigations.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Emmanuel Adedeji, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail as investigations were still being carried out by the police.
The Magistrate, Miss O.D Akinyemi, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ekiti prison and adjourned the case till March 14.
