ATM’s across the country as well as new ATM cards would by the second quarter of the year bear a new logo from the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems, GHIPSS.
This is part of activities expected to mark the beginning of the interconnectivity amongst banks which would make it possible for bank customers to use their ATM cards on any ATM and E-zwich Point of Sales.
General Manager for Projects and Business Development at GhIPSS, Archie Hesse explains to JOY BUSINESS, the new ATM logo has become necessary especially because the initiative would be rolled out in phases.
“Currently, because we’ve moved into the inter-operable environment, we need a logo that will tell or inform the general public that if you have this card, it will work on these ATM’s. For example having a GHIPPS logo on a card means you can withdraw money on any of the ATM’s bearing that special logo” he noted.
“Its similar to what we have in the UK .You know in the UK we have the “Link”. So if you see any card there’s the “Link” at the back and if you see any ATM with the “Link” on it, it means your card will work as well. So it’s a way of telling the customers that their cards will work on these ATM’s” he added.
The specific name of the logo among others is yet to be established. Suppliers of ATM and bank switches are stepping up efforts towards the integration of their systems into the national switch.
Whilst the ATM of banks connected to the switch would be branded with the new logo almost immediately, existing ATM cards (including both E-zwich and Non-Ezwich cards) would be phased out over a period of time and replaced with new one’s with the logo.
