1. Tone down
Spio has knowledge and substance but he must work hard on how he presents his case. Sometimes he comes off as too aggressive, high pitched, fast paced and combative. He needs a rhetorical strategists to help in voice modulation, pitch and use of rhetorical devices. Sometimes, it is not about what you say but how you say it.
2. Connect
If there is one thing Spio needs, it's the human touch. Sure, he is well experienced and knowledgeable, but that doesn't get you to the flagstaff house all the time. You need to connect with voters, understand their everyday needs and speak their language. The common touch factor.
3. Lower profile and temperament
Some strategists might say all publicity is good publicity but some publicity can be bad. For a primary campaign, national popularity doesn't necessarily translate to party success. Sometimes, being too much out there could cause voter fatigue. Spio needs to do more constituency politics and less national politics.
4. Limit press interaction
A primary campaign is not run in Accra and sometimes the press can ruin your party. The more negative headlines you get, the worse for you. There are stories of people who have always been on the front page but fared poorly at the grassroots where it mattered most. No candidate wants this as their portion.
5. Internal Supplication/Address past comments
At some point Ambassador Spio would have to address previous comments that have made him somewhat a pariah or polarizing figure within the NDC. He cannot go into a party primary with those issues still lingering. It would be disastrous.
