Shell Ghana has lauded the works of SOFT Transport Ltd and has called on all transport companies to emulate its professional standards.
Logistics Manager for shell Ghana, Mr. Joseph Kankam who made the call on behalf of Shell Ghana said companies should strive to have zero-accident goal targets.
He said this at ceremony by the transport company to observe 2,000 accident-free days.
SOFT Transport which deals in the haulage of Wet Cargo, Dry Cargo and Passenger bus services decided to put the strategy to test over five years ago, and has so far gone five and a half years without recording an accident.
Within this time, SOFT Transport operated 30 tankers, 35 trailers and 10 passenger busses within Ghana and from Ghana to other neigbouring West African countries.
Also 678,419 passengers were transported, hauled 385,985,264 liters of flammable fuel and 42,347.8 metric tons of cargo, including bitumen over a total of 32,743,466 kilometers.
Chief Executive Officer for SOFT Transport, Simon Frimpong said Ghana can be an accident free country only if road traffic laws are enforced.
Mr Frimpong attributed recent accidents and road crashes involving heavy duty vehicles to indiscipline on the part of drivers and lack of strict enforcement of road regulations by authorities concerned.
He said drunk driving contributes largely to road accidents and therefore suggested that companies should institute policies that prohibit drinking or smoking while on duty.
