Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic says they are determined to win their third-place play-off match against Mali at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday as a consolation.
The Black Stars missed the chance to end their 30-year trophy drought at the competition after losing to Zambia 1-0 in the semi-final on Wednesday.
But the Black Stars who play the Eagles on Saturday at the Estadio Nuevo in Malabo are keen to make up for the missed chance.
“We deserved to be in the final but now we need to fight for third position and that’s our focus. It’s our new goal and I am sure that Ghana has a great future,” Stevanovic said on the eve of the game.
Ghana beat Mali 2-0 in the group stages of the 2012 Nations Cup and another win will bring some honour.
“We want to finish our job, want to win something for our country, Ghana. I think that we played very, very well against Zambia,” Stevanovic said.
“We did fantastic, maybe it was the game of the tournament. And for that I think the third position is not bad and winning medals for our country is very important.”
