The immediate-past Foreign Minister, Nana Akuffo Addo is expected to officially launch his bid for the presidential baton of the ruling New Patriotic Party, via live broadcast on national radio, GBC, on Tuesday.
Ghana Television, (GTV), is also expected to broadcast the programme later across the entire country.
But the media launch, which is only a part of an elaborate media encounter to help prosecute Nana Addo’s campaign, will not be limited to his camp alone, as other NPP stalwarts and claimants to the hot throne, have equally lined up huge media programmes.
The former Foreign Minister’s launch appears to be the big kick-off.
Mr. Mustapha Hamid, who is in charge of media relations for Nana Addo’s campaign, has told Joy News that the paid-for live GBC coverage is only an addition to Nana and his team’s physical presence in all 230 constituencies of the country after he completed a tour only recently, which was rounded off with a final visit to the Abuakwa South Constituency of the Eastern Region, where he is the MP.
A group of students called simply, ‘We Support Nana Akufo-Addo’ is being launched today to herald the major campaign blitz expected on Tuesday, and according to them, they will raise funds to support Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign.
This week expect comments of some key NPP presidential aspirants on the airwaves, in the papers, on television and literally splattered all over the media.
Four key people out of the 20 or so candidates vying for the ruling party’s presidential slot are meeting journalists from tomorrow in what’s thought to be the official launch of their campaigns.
The former ministers of Trade, Defense and Communication who all quit government last month to focus on their presidential bids, are also said to be seriously courting the media and would be out with equally elaborate programmes this week.
“We have done 230 constituencies, we’ve sold the message…Indeed we’ve finished testing the waters, we tasted the waters, we waded through the waters and we are very satisfied that we have the capacity to withstand the tides and therefore we want to announce to the world formally tomorrow that having test and tasted and waded through the waters, that we believe we have the strength of character and everything else to go through the mill and therefore we are certainly in the race come December 22nd when nominations open,” said Hamid.
