Following the success of the maiden edition of Ghana Telecom Summit (GTS) and Awards in 2011, the second edition has been slated for April 12 – 13, 2012.
This year’s summit and awards, scheduled to take place at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, would be the largest and most prestigious gathering of telecom stakeholders, and promises to consolidate gains made in ICT and telecommunications in Ghana.
A statement from the award organiser, MobileWorld Magazine said the theme for this year’s summit is -Consolidating the Growth in the ICT Industry.
Group publisher of MobileWorld Magazine, Mr Akin Naphtal was quoted as saying preparation for the summit has kicked off and it promises to deliver thought-provoking insights from the prime movers of the industry.
Mr. Naphtal said the platform will provide an understanding of the dynamics that propel the industry and forecast future trends & expected developments.
“Investments in Ghana’s telecoms industry is worth $1.1 trillion according to the World Bank, and a summit like this will further show commitment to tackle current challenges and develop other potential opportunities for growth in areas of broadband deployment,” he said.
Mr. Naphtal said the summit would also discuss number portability issues, simcard registration and various regulatory issues affecting the industry.
He noted that Ghana was currently among top the 10 countries to rule Africa’s ICT sector in the next five years and there was no better way to consolidate this than being a part of the Ghana Telecom Summit 2012.
Mr. Naphtal said ICT firms and telecom operators are expected to showcase their products, services and demonstrate their leadership in innovations at the summit, adding that admission into the exhibition hall would be free.

In the maiden Ghana Telecom Awards, MTN and Airtel emerged the biggest winners with three awards each, and Vodafone won two awards, including the most coveted Telecom Brand of the Year.
