Chelsea midfielder Ramires has told owner Roman Abramovich that the Blues will never progress if managers are not supported through difficult periods.
Boss Andre Villas-Boas came under pressure last week when Chelsea fell out of the top four after defeat at home to Aston Villa, but he earned some breathing room following a 2-1 win over Wolves on Monday.
However, he has been dogged by reports of problems behind the scenes, with the Sun claiming he blanked Frank Lampard after the England midfielder scored the winner at Molineux.
But there was a show of unity from the players as they celebrated with Villas-Boas after netting against Wolves - and Ramires insists that the Portuguese manager, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer, must stay at the club.
He said: "If Andre leaves, someone else will come - and if it keeps going on like that, we won't get anywhere. The players know what Andre has done for the club.
"It's an injustice to make the manager the one who's responsible for everything that happens with a team. He's doing what he can until the players go on the pitch.
"From that moment, it's not up to him, it's not for him to run or compete for a ball. This is all part of the period of adaptation. We're trying to do what he wants but, unfortunately, there are times when we won't win.
"We're not playing badly. We have to go on the pitch with a seriousness and desire to win until the end."
