Miss. Beatrice Abla Senu, a wedding planner in Ho, on Wednesday called on Churches to ensure that marriages they would contract conformed to the laws of the country. She said the situation whereby Churches, which were not registered to contract marriages under the Ordinance clandestinely or unknowingly engaged in the practice, created documentation problems for married couples. Miss. Senu, who was speaking to GNA in an interview at Ho, advised would-be couples to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of processes and personalities that would be involved in their marriages. She said contracting of marriages thought to make Churches popular was leading many smaller Churches to undertake that role, even though they were not qualified by law to perform such duty. Miss. Senu expressed worry that some families within the same traditional areas in the country requested for different items for dowry during traditional marriage and called on family heads to ensure uniformity in marriage rites. She noted that marriage ceremonies were essentially to bond couples under the law or tradition and that the indispensable ingredients served as evidence. Miss. Senu said fanfares associated with the event were mere events, whose cost could be avoided and advised would-be couples to plan their marriages within their financial capabilities. Source: GNA
