Takoradi Circuit Court “B” on Friday sentenced a couple, Eric Manu, a 20-year old mason and Esi Badu, an 18-year old trader, to two years imprisonment with hard labour each for stealing two sheep valued at GH¢2,00.
They pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Seth Ahelegbe, said there was rampant stealing of domestic animals at Kwesimintsim Sofo Zongo so the youth in the community joined forces to bring those responsible to book.
He said at about 1545 hours on December 27, a witness in the case saw the two convicts conveying a load in a sack at the Apollo Traffic Light bus stop.
Inspector Ahelegbe said the witness became suspicious of their movements and alerted some friends nearby.
He said the couple was arrested with the assistance of some people in the Sofo Zongo community.
Inspector Ahelegbe said when the sack was opened for inspection, two slaughtered sheep, a quantity of maize and a knife were found.
He said the assemblyman for the area, Musah Adamu, who came to the scene handed the convicts to the Police.
Inspector Ahelegbe said in their caution statements, the couple said they stole the sheep at Apremdo and were sending the carcass to a butcher at Agona-Nkwanta.
