The Ministry of Information and National Orientation has presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 (50 million cedis) to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in fulfillment of a promise made to support the just ended 12th GJA awards. Mr Dominic Sampong, Director, Research, Statistics and Information Management who presented the cheque on behalf of the Sector Minister said government recognized the key role the media was playing in the country's development. He said the ministry recently launched the National Orientation Project to educate the masses on government policies and asked for more support from journalists to make the education process a success. Mr Ransford Tetteh, President of GJA who received the cheque, said the media would continue to play its watch dog role as expected and called on corporate Ghana to forgive the media in case of excesses. He thanked the ministry as well as corporate bodies and individuals for their contributions towards the 12th edition of the GJA award and pleaded for more support to allow the association honour more journalists in subsequent events.
