An unidentified young man believed to be in his early 20s was stabbed to death and two others sustained knife wounds when armed robbers attacked holidaymakers on the Bantama High Street at dawn on Christmas Day.
The young man was stabbed on the neck. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants attacked the man with a knife after he refused to hand over his mobile phone to them.
In the midst of the commotion, the gang attacked others on sight with knives injuring two others.
The Bantama High Street has gained notoriety for criminality in the night, especially on festive occasions.
A witness, Nana Yaw Osei, told the Daily Graphic that he saw the body of the man covered with a piece of cloth moments after he was killed.
According to him, he was enjoying the night with some friends at the "X" Bar, a drinking spot at Bantama, when he heard noise coming from the High Street.
Within minutes there was a spilover of the disturbance to the drinking spot.
"I personally saw a man brandishing a gun as people ran helter-skelter," he said.
According to the witness, a stampede ensued at the drinking spot and as a result he sustained. a minor injury.
He said he decided to seek medical attention at the nearby Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and on his way he saw the dead body.
"I also met two persons with wounds from the attacks, at the hospital," he said.
He stated that the attacks happened in the absence of the police.
The police had con¬firmed the story but said they were investigating the matter.
